Statement

Liwei Wang’s contemporary painting series of people and urban subjects employs an unique form, such as characters and backgrounds interspersed, to interpret his own perceptions and feelings about the outside world. He used his strong and exaggerated style of painting to form an image of self-painting, and thus extended to the spiritual level. In other words, metaphorical, implied, and symbolic, rather than direct, is used to convey an abstract artistic conception, and then construct a subjective spiritual home on a two-dimensional plane. In his works, through the concrete image of human and city, the different forms are recombined, assimilate into imagery elements and the abstract elements, which directly trigger the original emotions and feelings of humanity. Liwei Wang’s approach stimulates the association and thinking of people and the city, the internal and external dependence.
